UNESCO´s Landscape: Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve and Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape

The excursion to UNESCO’s Landscape will take participants to two UNESCO protected sites. Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve (program Man and Biosphere) is the most extensive complex of preserved floodplain forests and meadows in the Czech Republic, located at the confluence of the Morava and Dyje rivers. This area boasts high biodiversity and a unique landscape as well as long settlement history. Close-to-nature forests and meadows blend with the cultural landscape of the Lednice-Valtice designed landscape, historically created by the noble family of Liechtenstein and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During the field trip, participants will learn about measures to improve the floodplain’s water regime, species biodiversity maintenance, veteran tree restoration, conflicts of interest among forest and meadows management and conservation approaches in this area, cultural landscape heritage and management.
The visit to Lednice chateau historical garden will also be part of the excursion.
The Lower Morava Biosphere Reserve, which supports this excursion, is managed by an NGO focused on participative sustainable landscape management.
